Immersion ultrasonic testing systems

Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is a process that inspects solid materials and parts used in many critical aerospace, defense, nuclear, commercial and other industry applications.  The procedure transmits high frequency sound waves into the test material or part, which are reflected back to the test equipment to provide information on any of the following:

  • Surface and subsurface material defects
  • Wall thickness discontinuities in tubular products
  • Material measurement

Ultrasonic Testing is a nondestructive testing or NDT process, which means the test item is not damaged during inspection.

When is Ultrasonic Testing a good choice over other nondestructive testing methods?

Ultrasonic Testing is a noninvasive testing method that will not damage your test pieces. It may be the test of choice for the following material or products:

  • Material is relatively smooth and has simple geometry such as tubing, plate, rectangular block or hollow cylinder.
  • Examination for subsurface flaws, corrosion or discontinuities is needed
  • Thickness measurement is required
  • The dimensions of the test piece allow for inspection with UT equipment
