Magnetic Particle Inspection Identifies Defects
Lab Testing's magnetic particle inspection services (MPI) identify surface and near-surface defects in products that can be magnetized. Particles are spread over the test piece as it is magnetized when performing either the wet or dry inspection methods, which causes them to collect in flaws such as cracks, laps and seams. Most magnetic particle inspections at LTI are performed with fluorescent wet particles because they are small, contained in a liquid carrier that is easily sprayed, flow well to small leakage fields and are easy to see. Our equipment can handle products up to 12 ft. long and has a maximum output of 6,300 amps. The visible dry powder method is also available.
