Chemical AnalysisKnow What You’ve Got: Inside and Out
Laboratory Testing Inc. offers expertise in material characterization, trace element analysis and failure analysis research. Our chemical analysis services can identify your materials by determining their composition or elemental make-up. We use a wide-array of instrumental chemical analysis and wet chemistry methods. The chemistry capabilities at Laboratory Testing include chemical analysis of metals, powdered metals, ores, ferroalloys, composites, ceramics, plastics, polymers and more. Our chemists have the experience to perform chemical analysis on orders with limited sample weight or specialized requirements.
Trace analysis is performed using ICP spectrometers with detection limits in the "parts per million" range for many metals. Our SEM/EDS system allows us to detect and measure elements on or below the surface of samples for qualitative and quantitative information on material composition. The SEM/EDS magnifies to 300,000X, making it particularly helpful in analyzing small areas of interest on samples or tiny particles. The lab can also apply the many other methods of chemical analysis listed below to get the exact information you need about your materials.
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is the process used to analyze many organic materials, including plastics and other polymers. FTIR can provide both qualitative and quantitative information by identifying the types and amounts of materials, as well as information about chemical bonds and the molecular structure of the material.
Read "Providing Samples for Analytical Testing"Our chemists also performs chemical analysis on metals to determine susceptibility to corrosion using methods such as passivation, humidity, salt spray and salt fog testing for corrosion analysis.

RoHS Directive
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive or RoHS
Directive, was drawn up in the European Union to protect human health
and the environment from hazardous substances. The directive applies to
most manufacturers, sellers, distributors and recyclers of electrical and
electronic components or equipment sold or used in the European Union.
The Directive restricts the use of six hazardous substances in these products
- lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls
and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Laboratory Testing can help you assure
compliance with quick, reliable chemical testing and analysis of your component materials to
verify levels of the restricted substances. All of your answers will be
fully documented in a Certified Material Test Report.
