Chemical AnalysisKnow What You’ve Got: Inside and Out

Chemical analysis services can determine the composition or elemental make-up of your metals and other materials. Laboratory Testing Inc. performs both instrumental chemical analysis and wet chemical analysis. Our chemists analyze metals, powdered metals, ores, ferroalloys, composites, ceramics, aerospace materials, nuclear materials and more. Trace analysis is performed using spectrometers with detection limits in the "parts per million" range for many metals. LTI's chemical analysis lab welcomes the challenge to process work with limited sample weight or specialized requirements.

Lab Testing also performs chemical analysis services on metals to determine susceptibility to corrosion using methods such as passivation, humidity, salt spray and salt fog testing for corrosion analysis.

Chemical analysis of samples is performed using the following methods:

  • Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (AES)
  • Carbon/Sulfur/Nitrogen/Oxygen/Hydrogen Determination
  • Inductively-Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES)
  • Inductively-Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS)
  • Positive Material Identification (PMI)
  • Accelerated Intergranular Corrosion (ASTM Specifications)
  • Salt Spray (Salt Fog {ASTM B-117})
  • Sieve Analysis
  • Soxhlet Extraction
  • Plating Identification
  • Density, Porosity & Oil Content
  • Classical Wet Chemistry
  • Passivation Testing (ASTM specifications)
  • Humidity Testing
  • RoHS Compliance Testing (Wet analysis & spectroscopy)

RoHS Directive

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive or RoHS Directive, was drawn up in the European Union to protect human health and the environment from hazardous substances. The directive applies to most manufacturers, sellers, distributors and recyclers of electrical and electronic components or equipment sold or used in the European Union.

The Directive restricts the use of six hazardous substances in these products - lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Laboratory Testing can help you assure compliance with quick, reliable chemical testing and analysis of your component materials to verify levels of the restricted substances. All of your answers will be fully documented in a Certified Test Report.
